At its regular meeting Feb. 20, the Memramcook municipal council adopted an amendment to its rural plan allowing tourist accommodations in the Resource Development (RD) zone on its territory.

This amendment supports the municipality’s efforts to boost the local economy and tourism
activity in the region by encouraging authentic rural experiences for visitors, the community said in a news release.

“The growing trend of tourist accommodations in rural areas represents a great opportunity for both the municipality’s visibility and that of promoters offering personalized experiences,” the municipality said in a news release.

“Tourist accommodations is a vital element in shaping our image among travellers,” Mayor Maxime O. Bourgeois said in the news release.

“By adapting our municipal strategies, we will not only foster growth in the tourism sector, but also motivate initiatives that contribute to creating enriching and authentic experiences, making Memramcook a choice destination,” Bourgeois said.

The community said tourist accommodations in rural areas are changing the industry by offering a greater variety of experiences outside urban areas.

Memramcook is located off the TransCanada Highway, approximately 30 kilometres southeast of Moncton, approximately half-way between Moncton and Sackville.
