It was spotted around 8:45 a.m. right outside the York Care Centre on Sunset Drive on the city’s north side, said York Care Centre receptionist Dawn Comeau.

She was sitting at her desk when people from the office came out running, saying there’s a moose out front. Comeau went out to join them, and sure enough, there was a moose trotting along in the front parking lot.

“Everybody was really excited because you don’t typically see a moose up that close. In nature, you see them from a distance,” said Comeau. “The cars were stopping, and slowing down, and one was going slow … there’s a marsh just down the road, so we think they were trying to guide them to the marsh, (but) he didn’t go.”

Comeau said eventually the moose moved on and kept on trotting down the road.

Comeau has seen plenty of moose from a distance while travelling on the highway to work from Minto, but had never seen one that close and personal until that morning.

“We all went out the front door and he was just trotting along right in front of our eyes,” said Comeau.

Fredericton Police Force research and communications coordinator Megan Barker said in an emailed statement that they didn’t receive any calls related to the wandering moose.
