The CanadaEast service and CanadaEast.com (collectively, "CanadaEast") is provided by Brunswick News Inc. (“Company”, “we”, “us” or “our”). Your privacy is important to us and this privacy policy (the "Privacy Policy") is designed to give you more information about how we collect, use and disclose personal information in connection with CanadaEast.


By accessing or using CanadaEast, or by otherwise indicating your acceptance or consent of this Privacy Policy, you are agreeing that you expressly consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy and have also agreed to be bound by the terms and conditions of use (the "Terms and Conditions") for CanadaEast, which are available at https://www.CanadaEast.com/TermsOfService. If you do not consent to this Privacy Policy or do not agree to the Term and Conditions, do not access or use CanadaEast.


In this Privacy Policy, the word “including” and its derivatives means “including without limitation”.




We may modify this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our collection, use and disclosure of your personal information. The changes are effective on the earlier of: (i) our providing you with notice of the changes (including by email, by posting notice on CanadaEast, or by other reasonable means), or (ii) 14 days after the updated Privacy Policy has been posted to, or made available on, CanadaEast. However, changes made to comply with the law will be effective immediately. You agree to regularly review the Privacy Policy in order to ensure that your knowledge of CanadaEast's collection, use and disclosure of your personal information remains current at all times. If you do not agree to any updated version of the Privacy Policy, do not continue to use CanadaEast because your continued access to, or use of, CanadaEast indicates your express consent to Company’s collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in the updated Privacy Policy.




This Privacy Policy only applies to CanadaEast's collection, use and disclosure of information, and does not apply to any information that may be collected by or submitted to any other websites. CanadaEast provides links and connections to other websites over which we have no control. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of such other websites. Your use of any link or connection to other websites from CanadaEast is exclusively at your own risk and subject to those websites’ privacy policies.




We may collect personal information in the following ways:


    (a) Information You Provide


This includes information you voluntarily provide, including when you create or update an account with CanadaEast, post or respond to postings on CanadaEast, purchase a pay-service from us, participate in a verification process with us, sign up for communications from us, fill-out a voluntary survey, enter a sweepstakes or contest or promotion, contact us for customer service or support, or use certain features of CanadaEast (including when using interactive areas of CanadaEast). Examples of information that may be collected this way include: your name, email address, civic and postal address, telephone number, recorded communications, credit card information, survey information, profile data, product preferences, billing records and other user supplied demographic data. To the extent that you do not provide this information, you may not be able to access certain features or content, or participate in various areas, of CanadaEast.


    (b) Information From Your Use of CanadaEast


This includes information automatically collected as you visit and use CanadaEast, including:


(i) in our server logs (including user name, email, browser type and version, pages visited, referring page and service, IP address, date and time stamps of each page visited, sequence of visits and content, your internet service provider, other statistics, and errors);


(ii) through persistent and session Cookies and web beacons (or tracking pixels) including to:


A. save your login information and store session information, and


B. help measure the volume of visits to CanadaEast (or individual page views), the average time spent using our services per visit, information about how you are using functionality or your behavior, and other analytical and statistics about you or your use of CanadaEast; and


(iii) information about the device you are using to access CanadaEast (including hardware and operating system details).


Cookies are simple text files that Internet browsers are configured to automatically place on computer hard drives when websites are visited. By placing cookies on your hard drive, in addition to the uses described above, CanadaEast is able to recall specific information from your earlier visits, thus enabling you to avoid the inconvenience of re-entering certain data each time you visit CanadaEast. Adjustments can be made to most Internet browsers which enable you to decline all cookies or, alternatively, to accept or decline cookies on an individual basis. Please note that if you choose to decline cookies from CanadaEast, it will result in a less efficient user experience and may also affect the functionality of certain service features. Web beacons are small transparent graphics in web pages that, when combined with cookies, help us to make the collection and uses described in this Privacy Policy.


Not all information we collect identifies you or can be attributed as being identifiably about you when taken on its own. Similarly, we may aggregate your information with other information, or anoymize you information, in a way that it isn’t attributable as being identifiably about you (including by aggregating it into groups or categories). This Privacy Policy does not apply to restrict our collection, use or disclosure of such anonymous or aggregated information, which we refer to in this Privacy Policy as “Aggregated Information”.


CanadaEast may display third-party advertising, and our third party advertising providers may use cookies, web beacons or other technology to select, customize and display advertisements to you and to measure the effectiveness of their ads. For example, an advertisement may include cookies that enable the advertiser to determine whether you have seen a particular advertisement before. Additional information about how our third party advertising providers use cookies and web beacons may be found in, and are subject to, their respective privacy policies.




We may use your personal information:


  1. To provide CanadaEast and the products and services you have requested from us. This includes processing your registration and maintaining your account; tailoring or customizing CanadaEast or content to you; allowing you to make postings, be contacted by other users in response to you postings, and to contact other users who make postings; performing any verification processes; and delivering the other functionality of CanadaEast (including allowing you to save and rerun prior searches, allowing you to mark posts you like or want to remember for future access, running sweepstakes, contests or promotions you have entered, and sending you newsletters to the extent you have signed up receive them).
  2. To administer, maintain and improve CanadaEast and our products and services and user retention, and to develop new products and services. This includes diagnosing problems with our systems, administering CanadaEast, and performing analytics and analyzing how CanadaEast is being used.
  3. To create Aggregated Information.
  4. To display and deliver more individualized advertising and promotions (including third-party provided/served ads). As noted above our third party advertising providers may use cookies, web beacons or other technology to select, customize and display advertisements to you; to measure the effectiveness of their ads; and compile information about where you, or others who have used your computer, saw their advertisements and determine which ads are clicked on. This information makes it possible for the ad technology, ad servers and ad networks to deliver more targeted advertisements to you. Additional information about how our third party advertising providers use cookies, web beacons or other technologies may be found in, and are subject to, their respective privacy policies. Those third-parties may offer you a way to opt out of ad targeting.
  5. For advertisement retargeting to provide you with advertising for our, and our affiliates’, products or services (or other products or services that may be of interest to you) on other websites based on your use of CanadaEast and other websites.
  6. To communicate with you and to provide you with customer support. This may include communicating with you regarding your account and pay-services, our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy, changes to CanadaEast, information you have requested to receive, processing e-commerce transactions, or, depending on your privacy settings, providing notices regarding new or updated services or products, or sweepstakes or contests or promotions, or promotions, programs, activities, services or products offered by third parties that we think will be of interest to you.
  7. For additional purposes that may be identified at or before the time that the information is collected, or that you subsequently consent to

    We may store or process your personal information on servers in jurisdictions outside of Canada, including in the United States of America. While your personal information is in a jurisdiction it may be accessed by the courts, law enforcement and national security authorities of that jurisdiction in accordance with the laws applicable in that jurisdiction.




We may disclose your personal information:


  1. To third party service providers and to affiliated entities in order to carry out work on our behalf (including our information technology platform provider AdPerfect Dynamic Advertising Solutions Ltd., our site analytics service providers, and our other information technology service providers).
  2. If you elect to contact a seller (or other person) who has posted on CanadaEast, we may provide your email address or other contact information to the seller (or such other person). The subsequent use of that information by the seller (or other person) is beyond our control and we cannot be responsible for their subsequent collection, use or disclosure.
  3. To the extent you include your personal information in a post you make on CanadaEast, that information may be publicly displayed as part of, or in connection with, your post. If you publicly post your personal information, the subsequent collection, use or disclosure of that information by others is beyond our control and we cannot be responsible for its subsequent collection, use or disclosure. We encourage you to refrain from including your personal information in your posts that you do not want to be publicly available.
  4. If you choose to share personal information, including by sharing or promoting posts, publicly (including through discussion or comment functionality), with other users of CanadaEast, directly to friends or others through contact information you provide, or with other sites (such as social media sites), we may facilitate this sharing. We do not control these third parties that you might choose to share your personal information with or how they collect, use or disclose your personal information, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. You should review the privacy policies of any third party before you decide to share your personal information with them. Similarly, where you share personal information publicly the subsequent collection, use or disclosure of that information by others is beyond our control and we cannot be responsible for its subsequent collection, use or disclosure. You should always exercise caution when publicly sharing your personal information.
  5. To our third party advertisers or promotional partners for the purpose of carrying out the uses described in this Privacy Policy, including to serve advertisements on CanadaEast.
  6. To a third party where you express interest in, or choose to purchase or participate in, a promotion, program, activity, service, or product offered by the third party and to carry out advertisement retargeting.
  7. As required or permitted by law (including pursuant to a court order). We may also disclose your personal information to law enforcement agencies, other governmental or regulatory authorities, and private parties for the purposes of our or their investigations or enforcement of rights or offences, or to protect third parties or members of the public. Please note that (without requiring us to do so in other circumstances) we may not provide you with notice prior to such disclosure.
  8. To legal, financial, insurance, and other advisors or in connection with the proposed or actual sale or reorganization of all or part of our business, assets or operations, or a merger, amalgamation or similar transaction.
  9. As consented to by you from time to time, including to fulfill any other purposes that are identified when the personal information is collected.




As part of your use of CanadaEast you may request or be entitled to receive e-mail or other electronic messages about marketing and promotions, content updates, product features, issues impacting quality of service delivery, or other matters. By consenting to this Privacy Policy or by providing your email or other electronic address when registering for CanadaEast or when signing-up for particular types of communication, you consent to receive these communications from us, our affiliates, and third party partners. However, for certain types of communications (including commercial electronic messages for which we are required by Canada’s anti-spam laws to provide you with an unsubscribe mechanism), you may unsubscribe from receiving these types of communications by using the unsubscribe link found in such messages. However, we are not responsible for any communications from a seller (or other person) who has posted on CanadaEast and who you choose to contact.




You can request access to the personal information that is the subject of this Privacy Policy that we have collected about you, and our uses and disclosures of that personal information. You may also request that personal information that you believe to be inaccurate be corrected. If you wish to access your personal information or request a correction to inaccuracies please contact us as described below under the heading “CONTACTING US”. We may require additional information from you in order to confirm your identity following such a request.




CanadaEast has taken reasonable precautions to protect your personal information with security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including by establishing appropriate physical, organizational and technological measures designed to secure and safeguard the information we collect.




CanadaEast does not specifically seek to collect or track personal information about, or to target, children under the age of 13.
